Away from the coastline you have the hills and real mountains waiting for you. The two national parks, Krka and Kornati, offer it all; a multitude of islands and islets, cultural and historical monuments, numerous archaeological sites, protected landscapes, exciting towns both on the coast and in the countryside offer you countless opportunities for an active cycling vacation, whatever your level of cycling.
Šibenik and Krka National Park
If you take a ride in the hinterland of Šibenik, you will discover ancient forts around the Krka River. The archaeological sites of Burnum, Bribirska Glavica and Danilo with relics from the prehistoric era, give you the spirit of Dalmatian villages and let you feel and experience what life was (once) like back then.
The mountain goats among us can let loose on the ‘Dinara’, at 1831 m the highest peak in Croatia. Adrenaline punches will feel like shots through your body!
The historic towns of Knin and Drniš, in addition to being historic, are also picturesque and the little harbors along the coastline give a very special atmosphere. While cycling in the nature park Vransko jezero (Lake Vrana) you will regularly encounter bird species you have never seen before. Further cycling along the island of Murter and experiencing the authenticity of small fishing villages is also a must. Along the centuries-old olive groves you will reach Tribunj and Vodice, where you will find a rich gastronomic offer.
The Renaissance town of Šibenik, which with its 15th-century Cathedral of St. James (Katedrala sv. Jakova) is protected by UNESCO, and with its forts, is considered one of the most beautiful Mediterranean towns is the pearl of Dalmatia. We should also not forget Primošten and Rogoznica – small fishing villages with numerous legends and stories.
With more than 2450 km of well-maintained cycling routes in the region, you can enjoy a huge variety of offerings. Do you want to cycle along the undulating coastline and enjoy the sea breeze? Or do you go more on the rural tour and follow routes through vineyards and olive groves? Do you already have enough fitness and want to test yourself in the demanding mountain routes and explore the canyons of the rivers Krka or Čikola? You will find all that and more in the Šibenik-Knin region. A mild Mediterranean climate, pleasant temperatures, plenty of sun and little rain make this region an ideal destination for an active cycling vacation.
A large number of cycling events, various mountain bike races, themed cycling events, XC marathons, Winter League for adults and children also take place in this region and these offer everyone, amateur or professional, big or small, the opportunity to try out their competitive ambitions.
