SEASON START UNDER THE SOUTH TYROL SUNSHINE

Time to recharge the batteries a bit with some sun, fresh air and a good dose of adrenaline? Then Austria's Tramin is the best tip you'll have gotten today. Dolce Vita, vineyard tours, pass roads in the Mendola Mountains or the Kalterer Höhenweg. A pack of diverse and adventurous bike paths lead to the South Tyrolean Wine Route - Tramin/Kalterer See.

We asked Andreas Pomella – South Tyrol expert, cycling enthusiast and junior boss of the Roadbike Holidays Hotel Traminerhof – for a few personal tips for the start of the season in South Tyrol. You might be a little jealous of Andreas Pomella. After all, the road cycling season in his sunny, mountainous wine region lasts from March to mid-November. By mid-March there is usually no more snow here and the road cycling fun can begin! The wide, flat valley along the Adige River is ideal for endurance training; the region around the famous wine town of Tramin also offers a great starting point for high-altitude training. Finally, the Manghen Pass and Monte Bondone are not far north of Lake Garda.

"If you prefer a little more salt and pepper, you can ride a gravel bike through the vineyards on the Five Hills Tour"

Here are Andrea’s very personal 3 early bird tips for an early start in the cycling region of the South Tyrolean wine route Tramin / Lake Caldaro:

1. “A gentle bike ride to get your spring training off to a nice start is through the famous asparagus and wine region of Trentino – to the provincial capital of Trento for springtime Dolce Vita. If you prefer a little more salt and pepper, you can ride a gravel bike through the vineyards on the Five Hills Tour: 67 km of road cycling fun and 1,080 altimeters of elevation await you here. Pass conquerors with good physical fitness can cross the Mendel Pass as early as spring.”

2. tip for gravel bikers

“We locals use the Monticolo forest for biking all year round! A nice tip is also the Kalterer Höhenweg: along the Kalterer See or more technically simple through the vineyards on the trail of the South Tyrolean Vernatsch.”

3. April = time of road bike week

“April is not only the time of the apple blossoms at Traminerhof, but also of the road bike weeks: Racing cyclists, Gravel riders, mountain bikers, in short, everyone who cycles ushers in the new season together with racing bike pro Werner Weiss.”

In short: for “a slightly different cycling vacation” in April, the Traminerhof is an excellent choice.
