As a cyclist, you should therefore get out there as much as possible to cycle in those many beautiful regions where you haven’t cycled yet. “Yeah, that’s easy for you to say,” I’ve heard people say to me. “You can just hop in your motorhome and go, but we don’t have the money or time for that.” Excuses are there to be used—that much is clear. Many people want to, but are afraid to break away from their daily, safe routines. How many people later regret what they DIDN’T do? That I hop into my camper and go cycling somewhere different every time is, of course, wonderful. That I’ve chosen to combine an office, a home, and a car all in one camper and not need anything else is a bold choice that not everyone is willing/able to make. But to say there are no other options is, as we say in Antwerp: ‘nonsense’.
Have you ever thought about selling your car and buying a small camper?
You don’t need a car if you have a small camper! Take a look at the Citroën Holidays, for example. If you have one of those, you instantly have a ‘two-in-one’. You use it as a car for your daily commute and work, and on Friday evenings, you head off to an idyllic village in the Ardennes or just across the border in the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, or France. Your wife and kids come along on the adventure, and after every weekend, you have a new story to tell your coworkers.
And it doesn’t have to be expensive, because today’s smaller vans drive just as quietly and comfortably as a passenger car. Several car brands have discovered that these vans are perfectly suited for conversion into a nice little camper. If you buy one, you simply have a full-fledged camper with a full manufacturer’s warranty.
We tested the Citroën Holidays Max and found it to be a fantastic revelation!
No, it’s not like a large motorhome where you can actually live. However, it is an incredibly comfortable, maneuverable, fast, adventurous, and super-cool concept that takes young couples and families from the stress of the week to the peace and relaxation of unspoiled nature in the blink of an eye.
Wat is er zoal aan boord?
Twee bedden en slaapplaats voor vier personen, een keuken met een ijskast, opbergkasten, toilet, draaibare voorzetels, interieurventilatie en airconditioning, buitendouche, zonnepanelen, ruimte om je fietsen mee te nemen. De excuses om een gewoon leven NIET om te bouwen naar een avontuurlijk leven, hangen als rijp fruit aan alle bomen. Je hoeft je excuses zelfs niet te plukken want ze liggen zelfs helemaal overrijp, verspreid op de grond en voor je voeten. Dus gebruik ze maar zoals je tot nu toe altijd deed en dan verandert er niets! Of,… je kan misschien eens kijken of het anders kan!
Gewoon eens een beetje onderzoek doen en naar de prijs van de Citroen Holidays kijken. Je hebt een Holidays al vanaf €49.790. Bestaat er dan eigenlijk nog een geldig excuus om het niet te doen? Trek van dat bedrag het bedrag van je huidige wagen af en zie wat je nog moet opleggen om de luxe te hebben om op avontuur te trekken op elk vrij moment…Peanuts!
Of misschien ben jij wel die gast die zijn fiets op het dak van een Porche ging zetten om elders te gaan fietsen en dat (bijna) nooit doet? Wel als jij dat bent, dan zal je veel geld recupereren/sparen door de verkoop van je Porche – of het niet investeren in een nieuwe Porche, maar wel in een Holidays. Geld gespaard, dat je dan kan gebruiken voor het maken van heel veel korte en langere trips – met tal van restaurantbezoekjes en nog veel meer andere heerlijke dingen.
Of course, as a reader, you don’t have to agree with this statement, but if I’ve managed to get you all thinking for just a moment about approaching cycling life in a more adventurous way, then my mission is already a success.
And to give you a little more food for thought, we’ve accompanied this text with a few photos of places you can reach in a maximum of 2.5 hours—so you’ll arrive at your destination on Friday evening and have the whole weekend ahead of you. We deliberately didn’t include captions with the photos, so you can figure out for yourselves where the pictures were taken and get inspired to set out on a journey of discovery by bike and camper.
