SPECTACULAR COASTAL ROADS CYCLING VACATION ALONG THE COAST IN EASTERN SARDINIA

Fantastic cycling conditions all year round, spectacular coastal roads and impressive mountain passes: in Sardinia you are on a cycling vacation right by the sea. Far from all the crowds, the extraordinarily beautiful Mediterranean island surprises with its Caribbean-looking bays, mountain ranges, quiet roads and vast valleys.

When we travel to Sardinia, a postcard idyll awaits us with turquoise blue waters, white beaches, high mountains and rugged cliffs. But much more than the familiar dream destination for a beach vacation, Sardinia is a true outdoor sports paradise. If you want to train all year round – and breathe a little sea air at the same time – you should take a closer look at this unique island in the Mediterranean. Here you will find perfect conditions and dream routes far away from the crowds. With sea views and impressive passes. Especially the east of the island offers spectacular coastal roads without much traffic next to Caribbean bays.

But also in the hinterland there is a dense network of quiet, well-paved country roads and impressive mountain passes. A total of seven mountain ranges provide variety on the sunny island – from short, winding to very difficult climbs and intermediate mountain climbs. A hidden cycling paradise is the area around Monte Limbara in the northeast, not far from Olbia. But there are also the mountains of Gennargentu, home to Sardinia’s highest peaks with fantastic views and quiet roads. The vast valleys also offer perfect training conditions – with mild temperatures. The difficulty levels are as varied as nature itself. And then there’s the Mediterranean cuisine. From the coast to the hinterland: welcome to the province of Ogliastra

On well-paved roads with little traffic in the province of Ogliastra on the central east coast, you drive up and down from lonely bays with turquoise blue waters and breathtaking cliffs, from the undulating coastal region to the scenic hinterland. Here, between the mouths of the Flumendosa and Baronia rivers, impressive mountain landscapes with deep gorges and lush forests, wild olive trees, black pebble beaches and picturesque red rocks surprise. Well-paved roads with little traffic lead to picturesque villages where you can sip a cappuccino and chat with the locals. Adventurers and individualists are drawn to the lonely limestone mountains of Ogliastra. In the partly grotesque landscape, you can spot golden eagles and marmots.

In the province of Ogliastra, Hotel La Torre is the perfect starting point for cyclists – both for cycling tours along the undulating coasts and in the mountains of the sunny Mediterranean island. Here you can experience a cycling vacation right by the sea – with your own road bike or a bike you can borrow for free. Back at the hotel, the bikes are safely stored in the bike shed and then it’s time to relax in the pool. Or straight to the beach. The crystal clear, turquoise blue sea here is simply unique! And of course a plate of the award-winning “spaghetti favette es pescatrix” prepared according to an old Sardinian recipe should not be missing as a reward for the efforts!
