EUROPEAN PLATFORM FOR REFURBISHED E-BIKES COMES TO BELGIUM
The e-bikes are up to 60% cheaper than a new electric bike. The quality of the offer is guaranteed by the 20-point inspection that follows each repair and the one-year warranty. After France, Belgium is the second market to launch the used-bike offer.
Philippe De Schutter, former Uber Eats Country Manager and founder and CEO of The Park Playground, heads the Belgian branch of the bike platform. “By offering e-bikes a second life, we can reduce their carbon footprint up to five times,” he said.
Two trends are converging at Upway: the rise of electric mobility and the growing second-hand market. In Belgium, sales of electric bikes have doubled in the last five years and one in five has an electric bike. The huge supply of e-bikes creates potential for a dynamic second-hand market. But due to a lack of confidence in the quality of used electric bikes, the market remains virtually untapped for the time being. Upway wants to change that with this concept.
