Neusiedler See Radmarathon – The flattest granfondo in the world!
It will be flat and mostly very windy on April 21, 2024 when the Gran Fondo runs through the lowlands around Lake Neusiedl from Austria through Hungary and back around Lake Neusiedl to the festival town of Mörbisch. 125 kilometers await participants. And as a special offer for all fellow travelers or less experienced cyclists, there is a shortened version of 60 kilometers with a ferry crossing back to the finish line.
The Neusiedler See Cycle Marathon powered by Burgenland Tourismus is part of the worldwide UCI Grand Fondo World Series for the third time in a row. Ex-pro cyclist and former Dutch champion on the road Johnny Hoogerland, who will be at the start again in 2024 and is also reigning UCI granfondo world champion on the road and gravel, talks about the fascination of the cycle marathon: “The organization is perfect, the atmosphere is always great and the cycle marathon offers all cyclists who feel more at home on flat terrain than in the mountains the perfect opportunity to qualify for the world championships. Sprinters and tacticians are clearly at an advantage in Burgenland.”

In Mörbisch, amateurs can qualify directly for the UCI Gran Fondo Cycling World Championships, which will take place in Denmark in 2024, during the cycling marathon on April 21, 2024, and the 26-kilometer individual time trial the day before. “Last year more than 2,000 participants from 38 countries took part, making the Neusiedler See cycling marathon one of the largest cycling events in Austria,” says organizer Johannes Hessenberger. The program with many events
Again in April 2024, numerous events are scheduled. The children’s and e-bike challenge begin on Saturday, April 20. In the afternoon the individual and couple time trial races will follow. Here, of course, you can start with both normal road bikes and time trial bikes. And on Sunday, April 21, there is the 32nd Neusiedler See Marathon and mini version.
