THE VERBIEST ROUTE

In celebration of 400 years of Father Verbiest in 2023, the municipality of Pittem has revamped the already existing "Ferdinand Verbiest" bicycle route from 2010.

Verbiest was a world-renowned astronomer, engineer and diplomat from the 17th century who traveled to China as a missionary. He played an important role at the imperial court in China and became a mandarin. In the renovated Verbiest Experience Center you can learn all about his life story and journey to China. This is also where the signposted cycling route of 24/44 km starts, which runs mainly through the Pittem territory and partly in Meulebeke, Ardooie, Wingene and Tielt. The route runs along quiet, rural, paved roads. You can admire the most beautiful spots and enjoy beautiful views including the top of 42 m high Pittem Berg. The brochure and accompanying map of the route can be picked up for free at the reception of the town hall of Pittem or downloaded from www.pittem.be/nl/vrije-tijd/sport–recreatie/fietsen-en-wandelen/fietsen.
