THREE COUNTRIES FOR MOUNTAIN BIKING IN THE NAUDERS & RESCHENER SEE REGIONS

In this region – on the main ridge of the Alps – mountain bikers can look forward to an adventure full of variety: from the Reschener and Haidersee lakes, over the imposing three-thousand-meter peaks and the high plateau in Nauders, every mountain biker will feel at home here!

Tough climbs – which you can also tackle with the mountain lifts – challenging single trails, routes steeped in history and relaxing bike tours are just some of the MTB highlights in the Nauders and Reschenpass regions. And because the region is part of the border triangle between Austria, Switzerland, and Italy, the mountain biking adventure immediately reaches the next level with a quick border crossing: three countries = three cultural changes = three different experiences in one ride!

On the Reschen Pass, you are constantly on the border – whether it’s your own or that of a neighboring country. Between relaxing and adrenaline-fueled tours, history and natural history also come to life. For young and old alike, it is overwhelming to look out from the 500-meter-long tank barrier on the Plamort plateau over the jagged mountain peaks or marvel at the sunken church tower in Lake Reschen. A mountain bike vacation here is not only an impressive nature experience, but also a lively journey through history.

3-country enduro trails

In the heart of the border triangle between Austria, Switzerland, and Italy, the 3-Country Enduro Trails combine impressive panoramas, culture, and culinary delights on historic routes across the interconnected high plateaus. Five mountain lifts, 30 single trails, and 60 kilometers of trail fun promise a lot! Natural, varied, challenging: that’s the motto of the 3-country enduro region. We start our mountain bike adventure on the Zirmtrail and wind our way along undulating paths and stone fields to the Bergkastel high plateau. Ambitious riders can use this as a warm-up lap and then try out the Bergkasteltrail in the midst of the impressive mountain landscape or switch to the Mutzkopf for exciting trails in the tri-border area, such as the rugged course of the difficult Elven Trail, which thunders over countless roots and rock slabs. Another challenge is the 3-Länder Trail, which leads across the border to Italy.

New trails: Piz Trail & Hofratstrail

The expansion of trails is a top priority in the region. Three new routes have recently been added: the Hofratstrail, Goldseetrail, and Piz Trail. And if you want, you can switch to the red Schönebentrail in between. This is how we tackle the bigger challenges step by step. But if you cycle over the Reschen Pass, you also have to cycle over the legendary Plamort plateau: first, the red Almtrail takes us to the Stieralm, and the Plamorttrail continues to the legendary Panzersperre at an altitude of 2,000 meters. From here, we can already see our destination: Lake Reschen. We first descend the challenging rocky Bunker Trail before plunging into the dense forest and endless curves down into the valley to Reschen. A gem of a signature trail that should definitely be on your bucket list.
