A BARREL OF CHALLENGING CYCLING ROUTES FROM HOF VAN KALENBERG
But in addition to finding the right house, the right setting is also an absolute must. We found for our readers both the ideal vacation home – with the Hof van Kalenberg – and the ideal base for the most amazing cycling tours, in the village of Voort.
Borgloon and the Tuscany of the North
From the rural village of Voort, any wind direction chosen is a true cycling feast. From here, every type of cyclist will find everything he can dream of. With 200 inhabitants, Voort is Borgloon’s second smallest village. Here you are right in the heart of the fruit region in Haspengouw – the Tuscany of the North. Due to the history of the medieval Earldom of Loon – which originated here in 1020 – Borgloon possesses a splendor of buildings such as chapels, castles and a historic town hall. In the small and cozy town center you will find some nice, atmospheric restaurants. For cyclists, however, it is the immediate and wide cycling surroundings that make Voort and Borgloon so attractive to spend a cycling vacation here.
Cycling in all directions
Below we give you an overview of what is within cycling range from the Hof van Kalenberg:
Tongeren is only nine km away and invites you to visit Belgium’s oldest city. From there you continue cycling along pleasant back roads on the old Roman route to Maastricht (23 km). The area around Maastricht is more than known to true cycling fanatics. The Cauberg in Valkenburg, the Camerig, Vaalserberg, Eyserbosweg and the Keutenberg are true challenges for every cyclist.
Do you want to go from Borgloon to Liege (about 30 km)? You have the choice via Heers or Tongeren but steady climbing you will definitely do! Have you already climbed the Hallembaye? If you like a real challenge you should definitely do this! This region offers many wonderful routes, challenges and cycling events. Also Sint Truiden is only 11 km from Borgloon. This beautiful historic city, which in terms of fruit culture and blossom experience is not inferior to Borgloon, is always very lively and offers a variety of offerings for the visitor in every season. Terraces, restaurants, culture, wine and beer tastings, … you name it. Between Tienen – Sint Truiden and Tongeren, you can cycle along the old Roman routes that are car-free! New in the region around Hof van Kalenberg is the indoor cycling track in Zolder. Cycling on the track is always an experience in itself. Zolder is less than 25 km from Voort.
In short: You are here in the middle of cozy Limburg where you always feel welcome. The Belgian-Limburg cycling culture is everywhere and the cyclist is gladly seen here. Everywhere you will find locations that will welcome you with open arms and offer all the necessary service.
