PRIMOŽ ROGLIČ APPROACHES TOP 20 IN PROCYCLINGSTATS ALL TIME RANKING

The question of how to rate a cyclist's performance is of all times and all generations. Many find comparing with the past completely worthless. On the other hand, the urge to evaluate and “place” performances and careers is very strong. For example, after the recent Vuelta, the question was asked on various channels, how we should assess the career of Primož Roglič.

The answers then usually come from the gut feeling of the person answering the question. In our opinion, however, there is a better way to determine the place of a career and this is through a point system over the entire career of all cyclists. Nice, but how are we ever going to be able to compare all of that I hear many already thinking… Well, there is such an ALL TIME RANKING for cyclists, where you can immediately see that Primož Roglič has moved up to place 24 all-time after his recent victory in the Vuelta.

www. procyclingstats.com a great cycling encyclopedia

Here we would like to give a shout-out to our Dutch colleagues at ProCyclingStats. On their website you can find all possible cycling results, statistics and rankings of riders, teams, country teams. If you want to know something about current cycling, you’ll find it there. If you want to check the performance of a current cyclist against history, check out the all time rankings. At ProCyclingStats, they have developed a very sophisticated point system since its inception in 2013. Thus, all riders are ranked according to the most logical point system that can be used in cycling. The ranking is updated almost à la minute. For example, before crossing the finishing line in Madrid, Roglič was still in 27th place. But while he was still on the podium in Madrid, he had already moved up to place 24 by gaining the points for his final victory in the Vuelta. Great work, both from Roglič and ProCyclingStats

We give below the top 30 according to the PROCYCLINGSTATS ALL TIME RANKING:

The current champions are moving up the list quickly!

We also put Remco Evenepoel in the list, because we clearly see in the ProCyclingStats ALL TIME Ranking that both Pogačar – on September 21, 26y and already in place 19 – and Evenepoel – still 24y and already in place 56 – are without major setbacks on their way to an absolute top place (both top 5 or even top 3?) at the end of their careers.

And as for Roglič, his current ranking clearly indicates what an exceptional champion he is. If he is spared further bad luck, we can even see him sneaking into the top 20 all-time. Below we list his main victories and, it must be said, it looks quite impressive. Chapeau Primož!

A great Tour de France we just finished. The mastery of Tadej Pogačar was great, very great even, and it raises the question in the minds of many by whom and when he will ever be able to be restrained in the Tour again.
